MBBS, FRACS
Dr Frank Elsworth completed his ENT training at Sydney, Royal North Shore and Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children. He held visiting Medical Officer positions at Sydney Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children, Westmead Children’s Hospital and Mona Vale Hospital until it’s closure. He has also held Visiting Medical Officer roles at St Luke’s Hospital, The San, Delmar Hospital and Peninsular Private.
Frank’s current VMO positions are at Northern Beaches Hospital, The San and Pittwater Day Surgery. He resigned from Westmead Children’s Hospital in 2002 after 25 years of experience at a tertiary paediatric hospital. The distance and traffic between Westmead and the Northern Beaches where he lives just became too difficult.
During the first 10 years of specialist ENT practice, Frank participated in the government initiatives to supply specialist ENT care to the indigenous communities of Lightning Ridge, Goodooga, White Cliffs, Tibooburra, Menindee, Ivanhoe and many other settlements and Cattle Stations. Transport was provided by the Royal Flying Doctor Service with many memorable experiences.
Nasal allergy is the most common cause of nasal congestion and obstruction leading to impaired sleep and reduced quality of life. Frank received education in the USA to become skilled in recognition and management of allergic rhinitis and its complications. He is also well known for the management, both conservative and surgical management, of ear blockage and infection caused by “surfers ear” in long term surfers and swimmers.
Frank is the primary driver behind the development and recent expansion of Pittwater Day Surgery enabling Northern Beaches residents to access high quality surgical procedures, under local and general anaesthetic.
A father of 5 sons, Frank lives with his family in Bayview on the Northern Beaches. An avid sailor, he also enjoys the garden and spending time in the hinterland area of Byron Bay.

A message from Dr Elsworth:
All good things must come to an end, and I have officially retired from Northern Beaches ENT and operating at Pittwater Day Surgery as of December 2025. I would like to thank you for the confidence you have placed in Northern Beaches ENT and I in referring patients to this practice over many years. Drs Ming Lee and Nicholas Leith, both extremely knowledgeable and experienced ENT surgeons, will take over the care of my patients and continue to provide ongoing care for your patients and their families on the Northern Beaches.
Sincerely,
Dr Frank Elsworth
